Shaping the future: Georgie Simister wins Young Woman of the Year at the Women in Insurance Awards

Below, Georgie reflects on her journey and what this recognition means to her.

When I first joined the industry, I knew I wanted to do more than just understand how insurance works: I wanted to help shape where it’s going. I began my insurance career at an insurtech, working on how data could improve pricing and promote safer driving. I was quickly promoted to Broker Distribution Manager, where I found my passion for working directly with broker partners. Today, at Artificial, I lead commercial partnerships, helping brokers and carriers navigate digital transformation and build smarter placement and underwriting strategies.

Over the past year, one of the most rewarding parts of my role has been launching Insurance Technology: Fact or Fiction, a podcast that breaks down complex topics like AI in underwriting or digital risk exposure into more accessible conversations.

The goal was simple: to make insurance less opaque, more inclusive, and to give inspiring people in the industry a space to share their stories. Hearing directly from guests in senior roles across the industry, from law to claims to innovation, has been eye-opening, and I hope those conversations empower others who are just starting out or looking for what’s next.

I’m also proud to be part of the Insurance Institute of London’s Young Members Committee, where I help run events that connect early-career professionals. Building a strong, diverse talent pipeline is something I care deeply about. I believe the future of insurance depends on creating space for different voices and perspectives, especially when the industry is facing such rapid change.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve had to navigate personally is working with dyslexia and ADHD. Insurance is a language-heavy environment, and I’ve often found written communication and acronym-heavy conversations difficult to follow. That experience became the driving force behind the podcast: I wanted to create something that made the complex a little simpler, and the technical a little more human.

This award is a reflection of the support I’ve had from mentors, colleagues and collaborators across the market. I’m grateful to be part of a team and a wider industry that values innovation, inclusivity and progress. And I’m excited to keep doing my part to make insurance a more dynamic and rewarding place to work.
