Tell us a bit about yourself!

Hi, my name is Karol! I'm currently working as a DevOps Engineer, and I'm trying to stay sane managing our cloud environments.  I consider myself a generalist in software development, so I like to work on every part of the application stack.

I still sit in front of the computer in my free time, working on my personal projects or improving or helping with open source packages software that I find interesting. I spend too much time on social media reading about the latest technologies and patterns in IT.  When I'm not programming, I would either be playing on my Playstation or reading some science-fiction books.

How did you get started at Artificial?

I got an email with a job description that had just the perfect amount of buzz words, so I decided to write back that I'm interested, and here we are :) Before Artificial, I worked in public, government companies with hundreds of employees, so being in an office with just a couple of people was a bit of shock. But after two years I'm delighted that I made that decision.

What do you most enjoy about your work?

We are a 100% cloud-native company, so I use the latest services and software at work. I also really like that we are a remote-friendly company, so I got a chance to move to another city, but I can still work at the same place.

How have you been keeping yourself busy over the past few months?

Luckily there is a lot of work to do, so for sure I haven't been bored. When Covid started getting serious and we moved to work-from-home mode, I also decided to improve my health and exercise more. So I tried yoga, training with various applications, skipping and more. Right now, I'm trying to run at least three days per week, but we will see for how long...

I also started to play with some embedded development, creating some basic thermometers, and have been learning more about microcontrollers and hardware.

Do you have any advice for people starting in similar industries?

Keep an open head and remember that there is more than one way of achieving your goals.
